Suspended Words

I see poetry
hovering amongst the leaves
as our wood lot discards everyday words
now cluttering the earthen floor

A cold breeze jostles every branch
until exquisitely transient words remain
balanced on sinuous finger tips
stretching from the trunk
then down into the soil
from the roots of words

As the wind bellows
words I sought to recognize descend
until I realize I cannot spell
the colors of such words
or even begin to pronounce
such beautiful phrases
suspended from the trees.
