In Between

She is in that shaded place
In between the spaces
Of dreams and reason
The lucky ones find
A graceful balance
Of light that illuminates
The hopes and brightens
All those pleasures of youth
Lost often in the shadows
Pushed into the logic
Those wrinkles of age

Memories deemed childish
Until we stop and see
Under a lamp light
Near the side of a bed
A small table becomes an altar
Stuffed animals await her sleep
Post cards mark pages left to read
Pressed flowers from the garden
Simple chains and lockets
Each laced with her soul

She reminds me to enjoy
All the beauty she brings
This time of her in between
The gracefulness of my daughter
Blooming from a girl to a lady
She is my blessing
