Endless Wave
The pull is enticing
the undercurrent unseen but felt
our feet submerged in shallow clear water
deceptively coercing us to stride confidently deeper
we think we see it all
The undertow is unyielding
yet we eagerly enter turbid waters
breakers roll in and pull
not just at our feet
as our bodies lift on the crest
of an endless wave
We become brave
arms stroking in the water
our feet never touching down again
sands move to cloud the bottom
our eyes cannot see beneath the surface
of an unknown destiny
As the seas rise
storms announce their approach
though lightning flashes evoke little concern
we go still further out
we think we see it all
Our feet kick madly
large waves now arrive
rolling over us to overwhelm
we give in to the undertow
while new bodies abandon the shoreline
to wade in shallow clear water.
